Kentucky State Police Investigate Fatal Knott County Collision

Sassafras, KY. (January 6, 2021) – On January 5, 2021, at approximately 5:24 P.M, Troopers with Kentucky State Police, Post 13, Hazard, responded to a two-vehicle collision in the Sassafras Community of Knott County.

Initial investigation indicates that Sasha Hoover, 32, of Whitesburg, was operating a 2020 Jeep Cherokee, southbound, when she crossed the center line into the northbound lane, colliding with a 2009 Toyota Tacoma being operated by Sandra Hammock, 64, of Whitesburg.

A passenger in the Tacoma Georgia Adams, 55, of Isom, was pronounced deceased on scene by the Knott County Coroner’s Office. Hammock was transported by ambulance to Hazard A.R.H and later transferred to the U.K Medical Center to be treated for serious injury. Hoover was transported to Whitesburg A.R.H and was later released.

Toxicology results are pending at this time. This collision was reconstructed and is still under investigation by Detective Scott Caudill.
