Hyden, KY. (December 04, 2020) – On Thursday, December 03, 2020, at approximately 6:46 P.M, Troopers from post 13, Hazard, responded to a two vehicle collision in the Hyden community of Leslie County.
Initial investigation indicates that Tonya Sams, 54, of Essie was operating a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze eastbound on the Hyden Spur. Sams crossed over into the westbound lane striking a 2016 Ford van operated by Gavin Lewis, 35, of Hyden, head-on. The Leslie County Coroner’s Office responded and pronounced Sams deceased on scene. Lewis was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
Toxicology results are pending at this time. This incident remains under investigation by Trooper Adam Baker.
