McDowell, KY. (December 16, 2020) – The Kentucky State Police Pikeville Post received a call from McDowell ARH stating a male subject had been brought to the emergency department with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.
KSP troopers and detectives responded to the hospital and later to the area of Browns Branch, where the victim’s vehicle was located. The initial investigation indicates Ryan Etcherson was shot near his vehicle on Browns Branch. Etcherson was then able to walk to a nearby residence to seek help. The homeowners of the residence then transported Etcherson to McDowell ARH for medical treatment.
Ryan Etcherson, 26 years old of Detroit, MI, was transferred to Charleston Area Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.
Detective Dustin Thompson is leading the investigation. He was assisted on scene by KSP personnel.
