Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrests in Leslie County

Wooton, Ky. (July 17, 2020) – A Leslie County man and woman were arrested following a traffic stop early Friday evening.  Trooper Darrell Hicks, with Kentucky State Police Post 13, stopped a GMC pickup for traffic violations on Highway 699 in the Wooton community.  The truck was driven by 44 year old Kelly Couch of Smilax.

Tpr. Hicks’ initial contact and investigation led to Couch’s arrest for Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence – 1st degree, and several other traffic offenses.  Kelly Couch was also charged with Trafficking in Controlled Substance – 1st and 3rd Degree, Prescription Controlled Substance not in Proper Container, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Cocaine. A passenger in the truck was also arrested.  Regina Peters, age 43 of Smilax, was charged with Trafficking in Controlled Substance – 1st and 3rd degree, Possession of Marijuana and Prescription Controlled Substance not in Proper Container. 

Kelly Couch and Regina Peters were lodged in the Leslie County Detention Center, pending court proceedings. This incident remains under investigation by Tpr. Darrell Hicks.
