“Update” Road Closure in Whitley County Due to Hazmat Spill

Williamsburg, KY. (February 3, 2020) – The Kentucky State Police Commercial Enforcement Division investigated a single vehicle collision on Buck Creek Road in Williamsburg at 5:45 a.m. ET today that closed the road and evacuated several homes.

Preliminary investigations show that 43 year-old Valrey Laroche of Marietta, GA was operating a 2015 Freightliner on Buck Creek Road when he became lost following his GPS.  He attempted to turn the vehicle around when his trailer dropped off a bridge overtop a railroad track.  The trailer overturned allowing the hazardous material he was hauling to leak out.  Several homes in the area were evacuated for the safety of the those nearby.  This caused the roadway to remain closed for several hours.

Laroche was not injured during the collision.

Officer Stallworth is investigating and was assisted by Officer First Class Steve Douglas, the Whitley County Fire, EMS, Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Director and CSX Police

The Kentucky State Police Commercial Enforcement Division is currently on the scene of an overturned semi hauling Hazardous Material on Buck Creek Road 5 miles south of Williamsburg. 

The semi hauling a flammable material has overturned and is hanging off a bridge currently leaking causing the area to be evacuated.  The area will remain closed for several hours for crews to recover the vehicle and clean up the scene.  Hazmat crews are on scene at this time.
