KSP Investigating Assault And Burglary In Letcher County

Cowan, Ky. (January 27, 2020) – A Letcher County man was seriously injured during a residential burglary early Monday morning. Kentucky State Police Post 13 received a call around 9:00 a.m. from a residence on 931 South advising of an assault. Trooper Tyler Smith responded to the residence in the Cowan community along with personnel from Letcher County Sheriff’s Office and Letcher EMS. Upon arrival at the residence those responding contacted the victim, 60 year old Scott Day of Cowan.

The initial investigation determined that Scott Day was asleep on his couch when he was awakened by a loud noise. He advised that as he started to get up he was attacked and knocked unconscious by the intruders. Mr. Day was unable to provide any information as to the identity of those who attacked him. Scott Day was transported to Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital for medical treatment. He was later transferred to University of Kentucky Medical Center.
