Whitesburg, Ky. (September 25, 2019) – A Letcher County man was killed in a logging accident early Tuesday morning. Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard received a call at 8:51 a.m., advising that a man had been injured at a logging site off of Highway 931 North near Whitesburg and was in need of medical attention. Trooper Anthony Trotter with Post 13 responded to the scene along with Letcher EMS and Pine Mountain Rescue.
When Trooper Trotter and other first responders arrived at the scene they located the man needing medical care, but unfortunately found him to be unresponsive. Letcher County Deputy Coroner Derek Meade pronounced 48 year old Jimmy Branson of Whitesburg deceased at the scene. It was initially determined that Jimmy Branson was struck by a limb that had fallen when a tree was cut down nearby him. An autopsy will be performed at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort. Tpr. Trotter is leading the investigation.
