Crash in Perry County Leaves One Dead, Two Injured

Slemp, Ky.  (September 13, 2019) – A crash in Perry County Friday morning left one man dead and two others injured.  Kentucky State Police Post 13 personnel responded to calls of a collision involving a sport utility vehicle and two commercial trucks on KY 463 in the Slemp community.

The initial investigation determined that a 2002 GMC Yukon was traveling south on KY 463 when it crossed the center line and collided with a 2001 Kenworth dump truck which was being driven by 45 year old Walker Johnson of Jackson.  The Yukon sustained damage but continued southbound where it entered a curve on the wrong side of the roadway and collided with a 1998 Freightliner dump truck driven by 40 year old Richard Mitchell of Ermine.  The driver of the Yukon, 47 year old Timmy Coots of Wooton was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Perry County Coroner’s Office.  Two passengers in the vehicle, Robert Keith Caudill and Jasmine Cornett were airlifted to Holston Valley Medical Center for treatment of non- life threatening injuries sustained in the crash.  Walker Johnson and Richard Mitchell were not injured.

Seat belts were not in use and impairment is suspected as a factor in this collision.  An autopsy was scheduled to be performed at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort.  Detective Scott Caudill with KSP Post 13 is leading this investigation.
