**UPDATE**
Kentucky State Police and McCreary County Sheriff Randy Waters is reporting Deputy Sheriff Dustin T. Watkins, 28, of Stearns is still in the University of Tennessee Medical Center where he has undergone surgery and has been listed in stable condition.
Kentucky State Police Detectives are continuing the investigation.
London, Ky. (July 16, 2019) – On Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at approximately 8:18 PM, Kentucky State Police Post 11, London was contacted by McCreary County Sheriff’s Office requesting assistance on an officer-involved shooting that had taken place at a residence on Lick Creek Road in McCreary County.
Preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 8:00 PM, a McCreary County Deputy sheriff along with a McCreary County constable responded to a welfare check at a residence on Lick Creek Road. Upon arrival, the deputy sheriff located Mark L. Dungan, 48, of Science Hill inside a vehicle outside the residence. As the deputy approached the vehicle Dungan fired several rounds from a handgun at the deputy striking him at least one time. After the shooting Dungan fled the scene in his vehicle. As he was fleeing the scene he struck the constable head-on in his patrol car and continued traveling on Lick Creek Road. Dungan was located by Troopers and McCreary County Deputies a short time later in a nearby cemetery and taken into custody without incident.
The deputy was flown from the scene to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where he has been listed in critical condition.
The constable was not injured during the incident.
