Fatal Traffic Crash / Laurel County

London, Ky. (May 21, 2019) On Monday, May 20, 2019 at approximately 3:26 PM, Kentucky State Police Post 11, London received a report of a two-vehicle traffic collision on KY HWY 30 at the intersection of Sugar Camp Road in Laurel County.

Upon arrival, Trooper Michelle Lang determined that a 1996 Chevrolet Blazer operated by Russell C. Gilliam, 67, of London was traveling eastbound on Sugar Camp Road when he crossed KY HWY 30 and struck a 1999 Titan motorcycle traveling southbound on KY HWY 30 operated by Elvis L. Johnson, 42, of London.

Johnson, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Laurel County Coroner’s Office.

No drug or alcohol usage is suspected.

Trooper Lang is continuing the investigation. She was assisted at the scene by Troopers from Post 11, Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, Laurel County EMS, McWhorter Fire Department and Laurel County Coroner’s Office.
