Willard, Ky. (March 25, 2019) – A disagreement in Perry County Sunday afternoon left one man hospitalized with a gunshot wound and another lodged in jail on an assault charge. Deputies with Perry County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting incident near Dogwood Valley Road in the Willard community at approximately 3:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon. Troopers with Kentucky State Police Post 13 proceeded to the scene to assist with the investigation.
It was initially determined that an altercation had occurred between 23 year old William Strong Jr and 58 year old Lee Roy Colwell, both of Willard. During the altercation Lee Roy Colwell yielded a handgun and shot William Strong Jr. once in the abdomen before fleeing the scene. Strong was taken to Hazard Appalachian Regional Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Lee Roy Colwell was located by Perry County deputies in the Willard area. He was taken into custody without incident.
Lee Roy Colwell was charged with one count of Assault 1st Degree and lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail. Detective Eric Caldwell with KSP Post 13 is leading this investigation.
