KSP Post 13 Investigating Fatal Crash in Breathitt County

Watts, Ky. (January 4, 2019) – A Breathitt County woman was killed in a two vehicle crash Friday evening. Troopers with Kentucky State Police Post 13 were called to the scene on KY 15 in the Watts community of Breathitt County shortly after 6:00 p.m.  Trans Star Ambulance Service, Watts Fire Department and Jackson Fire and Rescue also responded at the scene.

The preliminary investigation of this collision determined that 32 year old Wilburn Neace of Clayhole was operating a 2008 Ford Escape in the northbound lane of KY 15 when the vehicle crossed the center line and traveled into the southbound lane.  Neace’s vehicle collided with a 1992 Chevrolet Suburban being driven by 65 year old Eugene Turner of Vancleve.  Both vehicles were rendered inoperable on the roadway.  A passenger in the Suburban, 63 year old Vonda Turner of Vancleve was pronounced deceased at the scene by Breathitt County Coroner George Griffith.  She was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.  Eugene Turner and Wilburn Neace were transported to the Kentucky River Medical Center for treatment of injuries incurred in the crash.  Eugene Turner was later transferred to UK Medical Center due to the severity of his injuries.  Wilburn Neace was treated for minor injuries and was later released.

An autopsy will be performed at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort.  Toxicology results from samples provided by both drivers are pending.  These samples are routinely collected from drivers in the course of a fatal crash investigation.  Contributing factors have not been determined at this time.  This incident remains under investigation and is being led by Detective Brandon Thomas with KSP Post 13
